Family Court
Judge Tamra Gormley
Family Court began in Kentucky in 1991 as a unique solution to allow one judge to provide continuity by hearing all of a family's legal problems and issues. Family Court is a division of Circuit Court, Kentucky's highest trial court level. Scott County's Family Court is part of Kentucky's 14th Circuit and began in May 2007. It is an amazing asset for the community.
Family Court's jursidiction is over the following: dissolution of marriage, spousal support & equitable distribution, child custody, support, & visitation, paternity, adoption, domestic violence, dependency, neglect, & abuse, termination of parental rights, runaways, truancy, & beyond control.
The best Family Courts in the nation are supported by Family Court Councils. Family Court requests community input on the needs of the community. Family Court is a civil court focused on providing services and support to our families along with necessary consequences. Please let us know what faces Scott County and help us reach solutions at the Family Court Community Councils held every third Friday at noon at the public library. Contact Heather Roe for more information heatherroe@kycourts.net.
Currently two of the services Family Court has brought to Scott County is mediation opportunities for court cases and a class for divorcing parents (Families In Transition). The Council is currently looking at the issues of truancy, substance abuse, and teen pregnancy.
